In an increasingly multicultural and ever-changing Europe, the One Culture project, funded by the Erasmus+ program, was created with a clear mission: to promote social integration and unity among peoples through the enhancement of European cultural heritage.

This heritage is not only made up of ancient stones or museums, but also of values, memories, traditions, and shared stories that can create bonds between different cultures. One of the most symbolic places in European history is the Domus Aurea.

Located in the heart of Rome, the Domus Aurea is not only an imperial palace built by Nero in the 1st century AD, but also an incredible example of historical stratification, where eras, civilizations, and worldviews have overlapped, transformed, and integrated.

From the visionary luxury of the imperial era to Nero’s posthumous political condemnation and its Renaissance rediscovery, which inspired artists such as Raphael and Pinturicchio, the Domus Aurea shows us how culture is a living process, made up of dialogues, reinterpretations, and rebirths. In it, we see reflected the very idea of Europe: a common home built on multiple levels, made up of differences that coexist and enrich each other.

The Domus Aurea is a symbol and educational tool: a starting point for reflecting on key issues such as inclusion, European identity, and shared memory.

The project partners organize educational activities, virtual tours, intercultural workshops, and opportunities for discussion, using examples such as this to promote dialogue between cultures, enhance common roots, and build new collective narratives.

One Culture is based on a strong belief: culture should not be an elitist element or a barrier, but a bridge connecting generations, communities, and countries. Heritage education, especially among young people, is essential for building an active, responsible, and inclusive European citizenship.

By promoting symbolic places, the project aims to convey a clear message: Europe is a mosaic in which every piece has value, and only by recognizing the importance of diversity can we strengthen our unity.

The journey of One Culture is still ongoing, but it has already shown how cultural heritage can be a powerful tool for breaking down barriers, building relationships, and stimulating a sense of belonging.

From ancient Rome to the Europe of the future, culture remains the common thread that unites us.
